About Me

Each week chat to a worker from Devozki directory to help you better understand the ins and outs of the sex industry, and how you can be a better ally to sex workers. This week we chat to Molly Lane about her favorite reads, how the decriminalisation of sex work would change the way she works and fatphobia's presence in the sex industry. Tell us your story, how did you get into the industry and what has your journey looked like thus far I got into the industry about 11 years ago. My best friend at the time worked at a porn store and sex has always been fascinating and I’ve been an exhibitionist for as long as I can remember. I started by selling my used panties in a vending machine and also online actually! From there, I discovered phone sex, amateur clip cites, camming sites, etc. For the first half of my sex work career, I worked mostly just online and didn’t lean into companionship until a few years ago! I absolutely love it. I read that you’re a bit of a sci-fi nerd! What are some of your favourite reads I really am! I love science fiction. Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin really opened my mind up to some ideas. Another one of my favorites is Flow my tears, the Policeman said by Philip K Dick and basically anything by him is pretty awesome. I could go on and on with science fiction honestly. There are some fun science fiction comics too. I enjoyI also just stumbled across Flames from a Tart! Can you tell us a little more about that and have you found your skills as wow effect escort from Birmingham useful when setting up this business Yes! I started experimenting with making candles in quarantine and really enjoyed it! The more I made, the more I wanted to share this with others. I decided to sort of market towards sex work and adjacent people and a lot of the titles are names that only people in the industry would know. Example 1 “I miss backpage” Example 2 1 token is 5 cents. It is so much fun to create them and share them with others and I made my Etsy shop in February and am having so much fun with it! As sex workers, we face several challenges in our line of work. What are some of the issues you care about, and how do you think your clients can help sex workers I care about the safety and protection of survival and queer bipoc sex workers. The most direct way clients can help is financially, donating to sex worker mutual aid funds! Why do you think it is important for sex work to be decriminalised and how do you think it would change the way you work Oh SO many reasons. Safety being the first one. Since we operate in the shadows, it can be hard to keep ourselves safe. Screening would be so much easier with decriminalization. It will change how I work by adding more autonomy into my hands. I feel like there’s another side and that is the toxic underbelly of the sex work community and a lot of things fester because of criminalization. It’s quite complex. What are some ways you experience prejudice as a BBW worker and how do you think sex workers and allies can better support fat sex workers Fatphobia is the last form of discrimination that’s still socially acceptable. There are SO many challenges being a fat sex worker. We are insulted constantly, and expected to accept lower rates and lower levels of respect. I repeatedly get told that I don’t deserve as much money as thinner people. People tell me that I am a risk to work with because I am fat. People will tell me how their friends would never believe how they would be attracted to a fat person. We are fetishized, insulted, and judged. I really appreciate people who understand and acknowledge the gross amount of fatphobia in sex work. What do you think the public should know about the sex industry and sex workers The public needs to understand and respect that sex work is work. End of story. I think once that’s established, questions like “Would you ever date a sex worker!” and “Do sex workers find their job empowering” will slow down. When you're having a bad day, what do you do to make yourself feel better Self care is soooo important! I have to be mindful to keep my own cup filled. Otherwise, I can’t be a good friend or lover or dog mom! What are your top three pieces of advice for workers just starting out Be patient. Temper your expectations. Schedule breaks and time off. What would your dream date look like We would start with some tea or kombucha. Then, walk around a bookstore and exchange some of our favorite novels and comics. We would then head to a hot tub and soak in the soothing warm water. After that A delicious meal. Steak We would then enjoy each other as dessert!
